Guild Ranks - Consensus

Guild Ranks

Guild Ranks

Captain: Guild leader - required by WoW (right now this is Mareynade)

Lieutenant: Normal members - kick/promote/demote privs, near-unlimited bank privs

Gunner: New recruits - limited to 10-30% of guild bank assets, still can access all tabs, no kick privs

Stowaway: Guests - no application needed, used for short-term memberships, intended for off-realm visitors, potential applicants, etc

Dockworker: The lowest level, full chat but no bank access. All invites should be immediately promoted out of dockworker. This exists because an guild invite may not reset guild bank permissions but a promotion always does. Basically, no one should ever remain in the "dockworker" position.

From a decision making process, there are basically four levels.

1) Captain & Lieutenants, i.e. basically everyone Everyone is unequally equal here, by which I mean, it's all equal except where it's not. Clearly the person who can write an addon has more power to get an addon created than someone who can't. Those the can change the code on the website have a certain amount of veto power in the form of "Are you crazy! That would take months!". That doesn't mean we don't all have a say, but at the end of the day someone has to be talked into doing the work.

2) Gunner. For all intents and purposes, there's no real difference between a Gunner and anyone else. That being said, it's a period where you're still meeting people, trying to absorb a lot of things, and it can be a bit much. My advice is to take small bites. At this level, your responsibility is to build yourself into a what you see your lieutenant role as being.

3) Stowaway. Again, for all intents and purposes, there's no real difference between a Gunner and anyone else. That being said, you're on vacation. Take a break from it all and relax. Feel free to jump in, especially on a subject you have a lot of experience with, but keep in mind the words of the Snowmiser.

Me lowly brave. Me LIKE being lowly brave.
/em points to two feathers on head.
Nice and light. Can run fast. Fly like sparrow.
/em points to Guild Leader headdress
Too many feathers. Make neck sore. Need much neck rubs. When he ride horse, act like big parachute and slow him down.
He need strong head to hold headdress.
I run like the wind. Fetch beer a lot.
It's good job, fetching beer for man with strong head. I keep a cold one for myself.

4) Non-members As unlikely as it sounds, there's no real difference between a non-member and a member. That being said, becoming part of the decision making process is a commitment to try to productively help make the decision and actively support the decision you helped make. This is a very different sort of behavior and ideals from how many of us are used to operating and we ask your patience if we're stumbling over the ideal at times. We're not perfect.

The above can be summed up in a simple ideal. The Guild Leader and a non-member have the same unequal rights as long as they are willing to accept the responsibilities that go along with those rights. The right to make a decision comes with the responsibility to make the best one you can and actively support the decision made, even if it wasn't the decision you thought was best.
