Frameworks
Frameworks
How is raiding like running software?
You need a framework in which to raid.
Unix is a great framework for running software because the writer is in the guts of it. There's no wizards doing magical things behind the curtain. The entire framework is right there, in all of its messy glory. There's no secret to how it works or what it's doing.
However, that's all it is. That's all it's intended to be. It's simply a framework. It's there for you to do something really cool in. If you want to write games you can do that. If you want to write a movie editing platform you can do that too. If you want to write some new type of artificially intelligent software with a giant database that logs into WOW forums and trolls them, you can do that.
Unix won't do any of these things for you. That's not why it's there. It's there to give you the power to do those things.
Consensus is a lot like that. Being a member of Consensus won't get you into a raiding group. It won't get you into an arena team. It won't earn you 300 achievements. It won't level your character. It won't throw a server party for you.
But it will give you a framework in which to create these things yourself and with the help of others. It will give you a framework to search for a mentor or two. It will give you a framework to start a raid group. It will give you a framework to start a server party. Or, if worse comes to worse, it will give you a framework to build onto the framework so that you can start working on those things.
It won't make other people help you, but it should make it a lot easier for them to help you if they choose.
If someone was to ask me what the core of Consensus was about, I would say it was about that framework, and that framework is made up of people and tools.
If growing people and creating tools and enabling people to build their own little slice of heaven is what you're looking for, this may be the right place for you.
